Wormox® is Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki EG 2348 24000 UI/mg an aqueous suspension formulation was specifically created through trans conjugation to protect vegetables and grapes from harmful defoliation caused by destructive caterpillar pests. The Bt strain EG 2348 contains several genes producing insecticidal Cry toxins, which are effective against loopers resistant to chemical insecticides. Once the target pest has ingested the crystal protein, it stops feeding immediately, and dies within two days. Unique, naturally occurring bacterium that affects only caterpillars and, because of the unique chemistry of the caterpillar’s gut, product is highly selective in its activity. It has minimal environmental impact and it will not harm other types of insects, fish, birds or mammals. Wormox® is a naturally occurring, soil-dwelling, Gram-positive bacterium.
During sporulation it produces a translucent crystal protein, the active ingredient of the formulated products. The crystal protein is a protoxin with insecticidal activity, which is activated in the alkaline midgut of certain insects.
